We're Launching Agent Payments Protocol (APP) to Redefine how Agents Negotiate, Trade and Pay
Today, Onchain OS officially launches the Agent Payments Protocol (APP), a brand-new open standard that defines how agents communicate and negotiate with each other, how they pay for services, and how they complete settlement.
This is the first time agents move beyond simple payments into a complete business loop, covering end-to-end task scenarios such as drafting quotes, hiring agents, fund guarantees, escrow, and dispute resolution.
For the first time, agents can independently run an entire business process
Doing business has never been just about transferring money. It involves quoting, negotiating, using different payment methods, and sometimes handling disputes. APP is designed precisely for these needs and behaviors and fundamentally redefines the capability boundaries of agents. Closed payment networks designed for human authorization will be replaced by open infrastructure and tools purpose-built for the AI economy.APP empowers agents in three key ways:
Agents can independently execute the entire business process without human intervention
Agents can pay each other, as well as service providers and merchants
Agents support multiple payment methods: one-time payments, batch payments, usage-based payments, and escrowed payments
How APP improves existing agent payment solutions
An open protocol for all builders in the AI era
Email and the web became foundational infrastructure because they are built on open protocols, not just products from a single company. In the same spirit, APP is an open protocol. It will become a new standard for agent-based commerce, designed for developers and agents across all major blockchains. Solana, Ethereum, and any other chain can build compatible implementations.
Today, we welcome leading developer teams including the Ethereum Foundation, Uniswap, and Solana, who share our vision of an open agent economy. We also look forward to more developers, builders, and agents joining us to deploy on APP, contribute to it, and continue expanding its boundaries.
